The optical measuring method has a light beam divided into 2 partial beams (L1,L2) fed in opposite directions through a coil (6) of an optical fibre Sagnac-interferometer (30), for propagation along a variable measuring path between the interferometer and the measured object (25) with a relative time offset, with evaluation of the resulting interference signal provided by a detector (9) for providing the absolute distance and/or relative velocity of the object.
