The position monitoring system (1) has a camera (10) for detecting an object (20) within a monitored region. An evaluation unit (12) receives and processes camera output to localize the position of the object in the monitored region. A radiation source (11) in the camera housing transmits and receives data to and from the coded reflectors (15a,15b) installed on the object. An Independent claim is also included for monitoring position of moving object within monitored region.
