Integrated high temperature fuel cell unit for generating synthesis gas and electrical current has conventional SOFC cell connected to cell preferably having three chambers with ceramic separating walls
An apparatus for generating synthesis gas and an electrical current includes a conventional SOFC cell (12) of ion-conducting electrolyte construction fed with synthesis gas from a cell (11) as anode gas and air or O2 as cathode gas to generate an electric current. The apparatus is designed as an integrated high temperature (1000-1200 K) unit. An apparatus optimally converting fuel gas (e.g. natural gas or CH4) to synthesis gas (and optionally thereafter MeOH) in a cell (11) with chambers and an ion- and electron-conductive ITM ceramic O2-separating wall is such that the apparatus includes a conventional SOFC cell (12) of ion-conducting electrolyte construction fed with synthesis gas from cell (11) as anode gas and air or O2 as cathode gas so as to generate an electric current. The apparatus is designed as an integrated high temperature (1000-1200 K) unit.
