The device has protective glass (3) monitoring with respect to temperature and fouling on the basis of a temperature measurement of the protective glass with a thermoelement (6) in combination with a specially designed drawer-like bearer (5) containing the thermoelement. The measurement values are used to detect satisfactory glass and to control the laser power.
