Device for testing a fire alarm consisting of a smoke detector (27) and a gas sensor (26) comprises a testing head (3) holding the alarm; a first gas bottle (9) containing an aerosol and having a first valve and a first gas outlet opening (11) protruding into the testing head; and a gas bottle for process gas. An Independent claim is also included for a process for testing a fire alarm. Preferred Features: The device has a gas bottle (10) for a testing gas with a valve (8), the gas bottle being connected to the first gas outlet opening. The gas bottle (10) has a second gas outlet opening (12). The testing gas is methanol or ethanol. The device further contains an electrolysis unit for producing hydrogen, the unit containing an aqueous sodium sulfate solution.
