The noise damping method uses one or more interference noise sources controlled via non-linear adaptive filters (7), for matching the non-linearity (3) between the noise source (1) and the interference noise signals. Each non-linear filter has a number of FIR-filters receiving respective output signals of an expander, with the outputs of the FIR-filters summated, their filter coefficients determined via a reference signal (2) obtained from the noise source, the residual noise signal (11) and the physical characteristics of the interference signal transmission path (9).
