The procedure for sealing gaps (10) between adjoining sheet metal parts (12,14) entails filling the gaps with a free-flowing synthetic material based on PVC. The material has a viscosity of between 1.1 and 1.4 Pas, a liquid limit of between 36 and 120 Pa, and a density of between 1.22 and 1.29 g/cm3. The material is applied to the gap by a manual or automized sealing technique. The gaps are automatically sealed with thread lengths of more than 1 meter. An independent claim is included for a use for the sealing procedure which can be applied to gaps with an inclination of between 0 and 45 degrees.
