The procedure for the treatment of granular material entails creating a heavy pulp of the granular material, and adding water so that lighter component parts rise and are swept out through an overflow and heavier parts sink to the bottom of the container (11). Water columns in the container are incited with several non-parallel directed oscillations which in the main are perpendicular to each other, and with different frequencies and/or amplitudes. An Independent claim is included for a device to carry out the proposed treatment procedure which includes several oscillators (E1,E2,E3) to generate the oscillations in the water columns.
