The quantative analysis method has a test code transferred from a memory to a digital signal processor (21) within a line-card (1), for provision of a corresponding test signal transmitted along the transmission line (2), with evaluation of the reflected test signal, for quantative evaluation of the transmission characteristics of the transmission path. An independent claim for a method for determining the line delay and transmission characteristics of a transmission path in the upstream and downstream directions is also included.
