A method for immobilizing biologically active macromolecules (I) on carrier materials by non-covalent absorption involves drying a solution or body fluid containing (I) one or more times on an implant material, then heat-treating to immobilize (I) or increase its biological activity. Independent claims are included for: (1) (I)-coated implants obtained by the process, where the surface has been prepared to improve the wettability, polarity or surface energy; and (2) a method for detecting locally immobilized (I) utilizing a reporter cell test based on increased expression of biomolecules by competent cells applied directly to the (I)-coated implant surface, to assess the biocompatibility of (I)-coated implants in vitro
