A knitted catalyst gauze comprises weft threads. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Process for producing three-dimensional catalyst gauzes, which involves knitting noble metal wires in two or more layers, on flat bed knitting machines, and running a weft thread guide between a mesh thread guide and a pile thread guide; and (2) Method for using the catalyst gauze, involves performing heterogeneously catalyzed gas reactions using the catalyst gauze.
