Synthesis of organosilicon compounds (I) containing isocyanate (NCO) groups comprises reacting organosilicon compounds (II) of optionally carbamate-substituted units (IIA) with di-, tri- or tetrahalo-silanes or -germanes (III). Synthesis of organosilicon compounds (I) containing isocyanate (NCO) groups comprises reacting organosilicon compounds (II) of optionally carbamate-substituted units of formula (IIA) with di-, tri- or tetrahalo-silanes or -germanes of formula (III): Ra(R1O)bXcSiO(4-a-b-c)/2 (IIA) R3d(4O)eEZf (III) X = SiC- or SiOC-bound group of formula (IV). -(O)g-Y-NH-C(O)OR2 (VI) R, R1-R4 = optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group, optionally with oxygen (O), sulfur (S), nitrogen (N) or phosphorus (P) in the chain, bound to SiC; Z = halogen; E = silicon (Si) or germanium (Ge); a, b = 0-3; c = 0-4; d, e = 0-1; f = 2-4; (a+b+c) = at most 4; and (d+e+f) = 4.
