Use of N-phenyl arylamides (I) to prepare a composition for treatment or prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Use of N-phenyl arylamides of formula (I) to prepare a composition for treatment or prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. R = mono- or bi-cyclic, saturated or unsaturated ring that may contain up to three heteroatoms (oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen) and up to three substituents (cyano, halo, nitro, (fluoro)alkyl, alkoxy, aryl or aryloxy); R6 and R7 = H, halo, (fluoro)alkyl or alkoxy; and R8-R10 = H, halo or fluoroalkyl. Independent claims are also included for: (1) New amides of formula (Ia) and N-(3-fluoro-5-methylphenyl)-2-methylbenzamide (Ib); and (2) Preparation of (I) and (Ia). R1, R6, R7 = H, halo, alkyl, fluoroalkyl or alkoxy; R2 = H, halo, alkyl, fluoroalkyl, alkoxy or NO2; and R3-R5 and R8-R10 = H, CN, halo or fluoroalkyl.
