The operating method uses 3 different switching patterns, with a constant switching period and load-dependent switching times, for switching the semiconductor switches (S1,..S6) of the rectifier full-bridge circuit in a discontinuous conduction mode. The first switching pattern has all 3 phases switched in, the second switching pattern has 2 out of 3 phases switched in and the third switching pattern has no phases switched in. An Independent claim for a regulator for operation of a 3-phase rectifier is also included.
