The rails for adjusting the position of a car seat consist of a lower rail (1) fastened to the floor and an upper rail (2) which is moved along by a nut (7) mounted on a threaded spindle (5). The lower rail has rows of slots (10) on either side. The nut has an outer thread which fits between the slots without contacting them, but in a crash the play between the nut and rail is removed, locking it in position.
