Rare earth magnet production comprises pressing a rare earth metal alloy powder using a magnetic field to form a blank, demagnetizing, removing the blank, and demagnetizing the magnetic powder adhered to the surface of the blank
Production of a rare earth magnet comprises: pressing a rare earth metal alloy powder in a hollow chamber and orientated magnetic field to form a blank; demagnetizing the blank; removing the blank from the hollow chamber; and demagnetizing the magnetic powder adhered to the surface of the blank by applying an additional magnetic field to the blank. An Independent claim is also included for a powder press, comprising a magnetic field generator (36) for forming a magnetic field, a device for demagnetizing the blank, a device (30) for demagnetizing the magnetic powder, and a conveyor belt (32) for moving the blank. Preferred Features: The magnetic powder is magnetized in a condition in which the magnetic powder adheres to a magnetic section contained in a device for applying the magnetic field to the rare earth metal alloy powder. The rare earth metal alloy powder is of the type: R-T-(M)-B (where, R = rare earth metal or Y; T = Co, Cu or Ni which can be partially replaced with iron; M = an additional element; and B = boron or a compound of boron and carbon).
