The sheet feed device has a unit to transport a pile of sheets in a first direction, a feed finger (12) installed on the path of the sheet pile and in contact with it, a sensor to detect a movement of the feed finger, and an externally installed adjusting device for positioning of the feed finger. A disc (14) is rotatably fastened on a support arrangement which has two vertical slide paths (62,64) connected to the adjusting device for positioning of the disc. The adjusting device has preferably two rotatable knobs (52,54) installed on the outer face of a frame (80).
