The device comprises several parts, a 'data ball' part for returning to the surface of the sea, while the rest remain on the seabed. Electronically stored measurement data and a transmitter are provided in the data ball. The data ball is separated automatically from the rest of the equipment, without direct command. The separation may be triggered by measured values, time elapsed or a combination thereof.
