Antiferromagnetic layer system consists of a ferromagnetic layer and an antiferromagnetic layer. The Curie temperature of the ferromagnetic layer lies above the blocking temperature of the antiferromagnetic layer material. The ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic layers are coupled together with respect to their magnetizing configurations. The thickness of the antiferromagnetic layer is a function of the operating temperature of the layer system used. The layer thickness increases with increasing operating temperatures. An Independent claim is also included for a process for storing magnetic data in the antiferromagnetic layer system. The ferromagnetic layer is made from nickel iron (NiFe) (permalloy) and the antiferromagnetic layer is made from nickel oxide (NiO), iridium manganese (IrMn) and/or iron manganese (FeMn).
