Dyeing textiles of animal protein fibers, especially wool, by pretreating with anionic blocking agent then dyeing with reactive or metal complex dye to give a specific uneven visual effect

A method for dyeing textile materials comprising hair-type animal protein fibers (especially wool) involves: (a) pretreating with an anionic blocking agent (I), which can be fixed onto amino functions of the fibers, under conditions such that (I) is fixed onto a limited percentage of the free amino functions; and (b) dyeing using at least one dye (II), selected from reactive dyes and 1 : 1 metal complex dyes, which does not displace (I) already fixed to the fibers.
