Microcapsules containing a crystalline compound (I) having an enthalpy of fusion of 75-330 kJ/kg are used to protect cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions from the effects of temperature variations. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition comprising a carrier and (I)-containing microcapsules; and (2) an insoluble solid substrate impregnated with the composition of (1).
