The clip for attaching a worker to a cable (21), e.g. on a painting cradle comprises a base plate (26) to which a first lever arm (50) is attached which has a longitudinal slot and is mounted on a shaft. A second lever arm (32) with a smaller slot at the top is attached to the base plate by a second shaft. The width of the gap between the two shafts can be varied and a ring (22) is fitted through the two slots.
