PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic path selection system and its method where active system communication ports and standby system communication ports adopts a multi-to-one configuration.;SOLUTION: Network devices 1, 2 conduct data communication with active system communication ports 13, 14 and 23, 24 and transmit/receive a control packet to confirm respective states with respect to standby communication ports 15, 25. When a fault state control device 12(22) monitoring a flow of data of the active system communication ports detects that the data flow of an active system communication port is interrupted for a prescribed time, the fault state control device 12(22) negotiates with the fault state control device 22(12) via the standby system communication port so as to revise the path for the communication having been conducted by the active system communication port whose data flow is interrupted for a prescribed time so that the communication is conducted by using the standby system communication ports 15, 25 to continue the communication.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
