PURPOSE: To obtain an olefin polymerization catalyst which makes it possible to produce a polyolefin having high melting point, high molecular weight, and a narrow molecular weight distribution and composition distribution with high activity by using a specified transition metal compound as the constituent. ;CONSTITUTION: A transition metal compound represented by the formula (a new substance). This compound can be used as an olefin polymerization catalyst component. For example, a catalyst consisting of a transition metal compound (A) of the formula and at least one compound (B) selected from an organoaluminum oxy compound and a compound that reacts with the compound A to form an ion pair can be used as an olefin polymerization catalyst.
