PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct isochronous transfer, if a node for conducting the isochronous transfer exists in an IEEE1394 bus network, and to improve a data transfer efficiency by omitting wasteful time, if the node does not exist.;SOLUTION: A method for improving a data transfer efficiency of the IEEE1394 bus comprises steps of periodically detecting whether for at least one of a plurality of IEEE1394 devices connected to the IEEE1394 bus has elapsed an isochronous cycle time, deciding that an own node is a cycle master (S1), whether or not the own node is not an isochronous resource manage (S2), whether or not a channel available register is not its initial value (S3) or whether or not the content of a band width available register is not its initial value (S4), and broadcasting a cycle start packet in a network, if the decision is affirmative in response to a detection of the isochronous cycle time lapse (S6).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
