PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination design technique for a road or a tunnel, allowing an illumination design for a reverse silhouette view with the same visibility as that of a silhouette view.;SOLUTION: Experiments find that the visibility of the reverse silhouette view is equal to that of the silhouette view when C2'=-(Lr-lo2)/Lo2 is equal to a brightness contrast C1 of the silhouette view, where Lo2 is the index brightness of the reverse silhouette view when the same road brightness Lr is established between the silhouette view and the reverse silhouette view. It is, therefore, found that a brightness contrast C2 of the reverse silhouette view whose visibility is equal to that of the silhouette view is C2=C1/(C1-1). Experiments find that the brightness contrast C2 of the reverse silhouette view whose visibility is equal to that of the silhouette view is C2=(Lr1×C1)/(Lr1×C1-Lr2) when a road brightness Lr1 of the silhouette view is different from a road brightness Lr2 of the reverse silhouette view.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
