PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for start control of a mechanical automatic clutch capable of appropriate clutch control corresponding to engine output torque, by allowing start with less start shock and clutch slip even if the torque transmission characteristics changes due to clutch wear, or the like, or the clutch connectivity changes due to secular change in response property of an electromagnetic valve.;SOLUTION: There are provided a process (S1) which decides a first target thrust clutch stroke at starting, a process (S3) which controls a quick connection actuator electromagnetic valve of the clutch into non-operation state at the point of the first thrust clutch stroke, a process (S4) which calculates the first actual thrust clutch stroke when the quick connection of clutch is completed, a process (S5) which calculates a difference between the first actual thrust clutch stroke and the first target thrust clutch stroke, and processes (S7-15) which decide the first thrust clutch stroke point based on the difference calculated in the process.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
