PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an in-cylinder direct injection jump-spark-ignition internal combustion engine having a high power and a high efficiency and a mixture forming method therefor, in which stratification mixture formation and homogeneous mixture formation are both satisfied. SOLUTION: The in-cylinder direct injection jump-spark-ignition internal combustion engine 10A includes a guide plate 34 serving as a tumble flow control means in a suction port 22. The guide plate 34 is arranged to be pivotably movable in the suction port 22, thereby controlling (changing) the desquamating state of the air flow from the wall surface at a throat lower portion 32. When the desquamating state of the air flow from the wall surface at the throat lower portion 32 is changed by operation of the guide plate 34, the bias of the suction air flow is changed, so that the generation state (strength) of the gas tumble flow in a combustion chamber 16 can be controlled. Thus, it is possible to satisfy both the stratification mixture formation (in the partially low-load state) and the homogeneous mixture formation (in the high-load state) and to realize a high power and a high efficiency.
