Method for the treatment of increased urinary urgency or urinary incontinence using ()-tramadol or O-demethyltramadol, in particular ()-O-demethyltramadol, O-desmethyl-N-mono-desmethyltramadol, in particular ()-O-desmethyl-N-mono-desmethyltramadol as free bases and/or in the form of physiologically compatible salts are disclosed. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions comprising ()-tramadol or O-demethyltramadol.
