"ARTICLE AMPLIFIER ARRANGEMENT, OPTICAL AMPLIFIER DEVICE, OPTICAL TRANSMISSION CONNECTION OF AN OPTICAL FIBER NETWORK AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE GAIN VARIATION DEGREES WITH A WIDTH AMPLIFIED APPLICATOR TO A SPLIFIED APPLICATION An optical amplifier arrangement is provided that includes amplifier elements (10) for measuring the gain applied to the total input power (21, 31, 40) and a control unit (50) adapted to determine the degree of gain variation with wavelength, that is, the gain slope, on the basis of a total gain measurement. This is achieved using a predetermined relationship between wavelength dependent gain variation and total gain. This ratio is determined in production by measuring the amplifier or a batch or class of amplifiers. Thus, an accurate figure for gain slope is provided for each amplifier. This can be used to eliminate gain slope. Alternatively, if system requirements tolerate limited gain slope, the figure can be used to monitor the system.
