In a solid tumor or other cancerous tissue in a human or animal patient,specific objects or conditions serve as indicators, or biomarkers, of cancerand its progress. In a three-dimensional image of the region of interest (Fig.1 element 102), the biomarkers are identified and quantified (Fig. elements104). Multiple three-dimensional images can be taken over time, in which thebiomarkers can be tracked over time (Fig. element 108). Statisticalsegmentation techniques are used to identify the biomarker in a first image tocarry the identification over to the remaining images.
