INDUCTION OF THE FORMATION OF INSULIN-PRODUCING CELLS VIA GENE TRANSFER OF PANCREATIC β-CELL-ASSOCIATED TRANSCRIPTIONAL FACTOR

It is intended to provide a method of inducing the formation of insulin-producing cells which comprises transferring a pancreatic β-cell-associated transcriptional factor gene into the pancreas. The pancreatic β-cell-associated transcriptional factor gene is transferred into pancreatic tissue stem cells by intracholedochal administration without ligating the choledochus and thus the formation of insulin-producing cells is induced. As the β-cell-associated transcriptional factor gene, use is made herein of pdx-1, neurogenin 3, etc. As a vector for transferring the β-cell-associated transcriptional factor gene into the pancreas, use is made of an adenovirus vector with the use or Cre-loxP recombination system, etc. Induction of the formation of insulin-producing cells by the above method enables regeneration therapy for diabetes.
