Queuing system incorporating queue place markers is operated using a computer system. A customer reserves a queue place via the Internet or a mobile phone connection. He is then given a place marker number and corresponding identifier for the number. The system can be queried to obtain the estimated time at which he will be seen. The customer arrives close to his estimated time, identifies himself and receives his printed out queue place marker.
