Method has the following steps: (a) Scanning of a sector wheel associated with a crankshaft (3); (b) Determination of the time of travel for a sector of given size to pass a sensor; (c) Determination of operation dependent parameters from a characteristic field; (d) Compensation of periodic variations in the rotational velocity for the measured time of travel for a sector using the correction factors. The compensation factors are determined from combustion engine (1) parameters determined from measurements of the rotational velocity variations of a test bed engine.
