Utilization of animal meal by conversion to plant growth stimulant, by heating with strong aqueous alkali and neutralizing to give product containing carbon, potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen sources

Utilization of animal carcasses and animal meal involves treating animal meal or its precursor in its production with an aqueous solution containing alkali more basic than ammonia, heating the mixture, neutralizing, and cooling to give a plant growth stimulating product (I) with fertilizing action. Utilization of animal carcasses and animal meal involves: (1) treating animal meal or a precursor in its production (e.g. meat slurry) with an aqueous solution containing waste or other alkali more basic than ammonia (1-30 wt.%); (2) heating the mixture in a reactor at 75-180 deg C under a pressure of 1-10 bars for 0.5-60 minutes, preferably under mixing or stirring; (3) neutralizing to pH 6-10 with acid (preferably phosphoric or nitric acid); and (4) cooling to give a plant growth stimulating product (I) with fertilizing action, containing functional group-containing decomposed carbon-containing nutrient medium for microorganisms (2-15%), potassium oxide (2-15%), phosphorus pentoxide (1-15%) and nitrogen (1-20%).
