Navigation method in which speech files composed of speech segments for generation of acoustic instructions for guiding a driver are stored in a memory (S) after receipt from a transceiver (SE) that connects either directly or indirectly to a service provider (D). The speech files are then converted so that they can be output via a loudspeaker so that a driver continuously receives spoken instructions relating to his current location. The invention also relates to a corresponding navigation system and unit, whereby data is transmitted using a mobile telecommunications protocol.
