Method has the following steps: determination of the frequency of low frequency components of a impulse wave current or voltage; calculation of loop conductivity using a Thomson oscillating loop formula with the known frequency of the impulse capacitor from the determined low oscillation frequency; subtraction of the impulse capacitor's and measurement line's own inductance as a correction factor; and calculation of the distance to a cable error from the calculated inductance from the inductance distribution of the measurement object. An Independent claim is made for an evaluation circuit for fault location in low and middle voltage power distribution networks.
