To raise and lower a rising pipe, according to the level of the fluid medium in a geological cavern, the rising pipe strand (6) is moved by a raising/lowering unit (9) and is locked in place by a holding unit (8). Both units are between a feed channel connection (10) and a head flange at the cavern head (3). The raising/lowering unit has double-action hydraulic cylinders, where one is a hollow cylinder piston with a wedge lock to fix the fitted pipe segment (5) or installed pipe strand.
