Use is claimed of histidine in the production of cosmetic or dermatological compositions to prevent the washing out by water of natural-occurring or applied cis- or trans-urocaninic acid (imidazolylacrylic acid) in or on the human skin or to prevent the increase in the content of urocaninic acid in the human skin.
