The fuel injector (1) has two or more spray apertures (2,3) for fluid jets. The apertures are positioned in pairs, and the fluid jets meet at a point in the combustion chamber so that the jets form an eddy. At the meeting point the jets are at an angle of 90 deg to each other. The process is for use in direct-injecting piston engines or thermal turbo engines.
