Controlling the sintering contraction and sintering deformation in components made from sintered materials comprises providing the components with an insert in the region of recesses and/or passages before sintering; sintering under the usual conditions; and releasing the insert. The sintered materials and the material of the insert are selected so that a contraction is produced which makes up 99.5-50 % of the maximum linear sintering contraction of the sintered material. Preferred Features: The contraction is limited to 99-55, preferably 99-60 % of the maximum contraction. A material is used for the insert which has a heat expansion coefficient equal to or larger than the heat expansion coefficient of the sintered material in the non-sintered state. The sintered material is a metallic material and the insert is a ceramic material.
