Amplitude and phase angle for a rotor balance error are detected from vibrational signals from a surface area and from signals generated by rotation of the rotor. During a constant speed for the time that a rotor rotates, transmission factors dependent on speed are determine. A phi = 0 phase angle is assigned to a signal generated by rotation. The span of vibrational time is extracted for single rotations. Regression is calculated for determining amplitude and phase angle of a speed component for measured vibrations. The number of revolutions is calculated.
