The old pipe (2) maybe straight and may provide a passage between two trenches. The new pipe (1) is flexible and may be fed through the pusher mechanism (5) which is installed in the first trench (8). The bore expanding tool (3) has a guide member (4) at its front end, with rollers (9) engaging the inside surface of the old pipe. There is a frustoconical section near the rear end of the tool to burst the old pipe and expand the bore to accommodate the new pipe.
