Method in which messages are sent from a first participant (S) to one or more second participants. According to the method, the first participant logs on to a local user computer so that an identification key (K(S)) is stored in the user computer. Each participant can chose to sign each data packet of a network protocol with a digital signature that comprises a key and checksum. The checksum is determined from the key based on an algorithm, of which a part at least is available only to the individual user and or a trust center. Signing of e-mail data packets can take place at the IP level or the transport level.
