A process for preparation of composite membranes, useful in production of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells, comprises preparation of a branched polyalkoxysilane, preparation of an organic proton conductor, mixing the components and preparing a membrane from the mixture of components is new. An Independent claim is included for a composite membrane obtained as above.
