Fire detection system for fixing unit of electrophotographic printer, detects fire using thin sensor lines burnt through if fire occurs which activates partitions to prevent spread from fixing unit

Under printing material/paper (6), thin conductive sensor lines (3) are located which burn through if paper is burnt. When fire occurs, current flow through burnt through sensor line(s) is interrupted and sensor signal is provided. To prevent spread of fire from fixing area (FX), partitions (7,8) arranged at entrance and exit of fixing area are mechanically coupled with sensor lines so when at least one sensor line is burnt through, fixing area is partitioned off from rest of machine.
