Process planning method has the following steps: (a) Calculation of a first configuration for a manufacturing process using input parameters and an analytic manufacturing model (b) input of the configuration determined in step a) to an event oriented simulation and or layout modeling of the manufacturing process (c) setting of break-off conditions (d) testing to see if break-off conditions are fulfilled (e) alteration of input parameters in step a) and repeating of steps a) to e) until break-off conditions are fulfilled at which point the configuration is output. The invention also relates to a corresponding data processing arrangement, computer program product and a computer readable storage medium.
