The method involves storing the significant desired properties of the coating as desired data in a quality assurance system, controlling a manipulator to apply a coating to a test object before application to a target object, acquiring an image of the test object, storing as actual data and comparing with desired data and inhibiting or allowing coating of the target object depending on the comparison result.
