The telescope mounting (1) consists of a prismatic-section rail with a dovetail shape on the top surface to allow the telescope to be moved longitudinally without lifting off the rail. The rail has a flat side surface at right-angles to the top surface, to accommodate a parallel-sided vertical rail attached by screws. Further screws are used to attach the rail in turn to a flat surface on the side of the weapon.
