The inventive method relates particularly to IEEE1394 high performance serial buses. Following a bus configuration or reset, each peripheral tries to associate the unique permanent identifier of other peripherals with an assigned internal network address. The exploration is carried for a given peripheral as a function of its own given parameter, i.e. in a given order. The invention also relates to a corresponding peripheral device.
